Explore the City Farm…

We care for five outdoor sites offering an open access city farm and urban gardens all year round, and provide essential community services.

St Werburghs City Farm is OPEN to the general public 7 DAYS A WEEK from 9AM - 5PM.

All of the Farm's sites are located in and around Ashley Vale, St Werburghs, Bristol, BS2 9YJ. Go here for directions on how to get to St Werburghs City Farm...

Space hire: we also have several venues available for hire, including classrooms, kitchens, a private woodland and a community building.

Visit our City Farm's Small-holding

Our farm has a small holding open to visitors which allows people living in the city to learn about farming animals and why we raise them, as well as growing food in an urban setting. Just over the road is the adventure play space and award winning City Farm Cafe which serves local organic food — naturally including produce from the Farm — within a hobbitesque space.

Enjoy our Community Garden

The Community Garden is a 1 acre site on the south side of the graffiti tunnel on Mina Road. The sloped site has a mix of raised beds with flowers, vegetables and soft fruit nestled amongst a boarder of trees. Wander up through the terraces, and you are guaranteed to find a sunny spot to watch the butterflies, birds and bees busy at work helping to pollinate the flowers.

The garden is cared for by our volunteers and Supported Training team so please respect the site.

Get plug plants at the Propagation Place

Next to our small holding, the Propagation Place is home to a growing space with raised beds and wheelchair-accessible paths, and a propagation poly-tunnel raising tens of thousands of vegetable seedlings for sale online and to local residents on-site.

By providing healthy plug plants to our neighbouring 13 acres of allotments (and nationwide shipping via online orders), we're not only supporting our local food system, but we've also created a vibrant community business that provides loads of great volunteering and educational opportunities.

Learn or celebrate at Boiling Wells

Boiling Wells is a beautiful 2.5 acre site nestled in a tranquil woodland valley just 3 minutes walk from the main Farm site. With wild green spaces, a terraced orchard interspersed with rambling soft fruit, native trees and a nearby stream, it is a unique oasis in the heart of the city. From here, we run a range of outdoor activities that are not easily accessed elsewhere within the city. When the site's not in use for learning and training activities, it can be hired for weddings and group events.

Splurge at the The Farm Café

The City Farm provides meat, vegetables, salad and wild ingredients for the Café menu. Supporters of organic, fair-trade and wild food systems, all dietary requirements are catered for. The local allotment holders are also encouraged to trade surplus in return for something to eat or drink. The hobbit-esque building, home to this Café for over ten years, is situated in the centre of the City Farm and made from organically shaped, gnarled wood with bright inlaid windows.

Purchase our produce at the Farm Shop

We may be small, but we are a working Farm. We usually have hen and duck eggs for sale in the Farm Office daily on a first come first served basis. And three or four times a year we also have any extra meat, not required by our Farm Café, for sale, from lamb and pork to goat meat, for those who like to measure their Food Miles in inches.

See what's growing at Ashley Vale Allotments

Surrounding the Farm site are 13 acres of community allotments which we manage on behalf of Bristol City Council with support from the Ashley Vale Allotment Association (AVAA) committee. Working in collaboration with AVAA, the Farm has launched a plant plug social enterprise — Propagation Place — with a propagation polytunnel and accessible gardening facilities.
