Young people

St Werburghs City Farm provides a safe, accessible and well equipped environment in which people can learn new skills and grow in confidence and independence. Our youth project offers unique opportunities for young people to experience practical placements working with animals, taking part in Forest school days or learning about nature at Boiling Wells nature reserve.

Learning activities

We offer placements and one off farm experiences to suit small groups or individuals. These include our Work2Learn "Livestock care and farmingBushcraft and Environmental skills" and “Enterprise courses" as well as tailor made courses and placements.

Group visits

We offer fun packed educational experiences to complement educational projects or suit your specific needs.
Visits can include a tour of the farm, making pizzas in our wood fired oven, natural crafts, bush crafts and other outdoor learning experiences. You can book a one off visit or weekly sessions for a period of six weeks or give us a call to discuss your bespoke requirements.

After school activities

The Farm's weekly youth club meets at Boiling Wells every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 6.00pm. We welcome young people aged 11-19 years old and each session only costs a £1.00. Each week the crew choose what they want to do from firelighting, den building, woodwork, outdoor cooking and much more. Meet new people and enjoy the surroundings that make this one of the most unique youth clubs in the country!

We have a number of vacancies for work experience placements in the summer term 2017 and some volunteer opportunities for Duke of Edinburgh students throughout the year. There is a huge demand for these placements therefore we want to ensure that we give this unique chance to those who would most benefit from it (Priority is given to those who already attend the farm through our Work2Learn programmes or attend the youth club)

To apply, just email Anna, our Site Development Manager, stating:

  • Whether you want work experience or Duke of Edinburgh experience
  • What dates/times you would prefer
  • Why you want to gain experience at St Werburghs City Farm
  • What skills or qualities you will bring

National Citizen Service

We were really lucky that we were chosen to deliver the government funded National Citizen Service programme. We took a group of thirty young people to Morpha Bay Adventure Centre, then 3 jam packed days at the farm, followed by a 7 week youth led social action project, exhausting but brilliant.
Here's what we got up to...
