Caring for Animals

Our Supported Training Programme for adults with learning difficulties or disabilities includes Animal Care Sessions.

Animal care participants learn about caring for farm animals and the other roles involved in managing a small working Farm. Activities are practical, energetic but very rewarding and unique to those living in a city.

Experiences include feeding, handling the animals, cleaning animal pens and other related tasks. We value everyone’s contribution and integrate people into the daily life of the Farm wherever possible – from collecting the eggs to sweeping the paths.

We offer everyone an opportunity to do ASDAN training and if taken up, every participant will receive a portfolio with certificates on tasks completed and achievements gained.

We currently run a pilot scheme for animal assisted therapy and believe being with animals can improve confidence, and reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety. We encourage interactions with all the farm animals – from grooming a goat to cuddling a chick!
