Supported Farming, Green Care & Assisted Training Placements

Supported training opportunities and practical placements within a truly unique setting

The Farm is set within a safe and beautiful green space in St Werburghs surrounded by allotments and the Narroways Nature Reserve. This is a perfect place for our sessions. With a small-holding and the community garden, we offer unique training placements and therapeutic activities in gardening and animal care for neurodiverse adults requiring support.

A programme of meaningful nature-based activities is delivered by expert staff and we aim to create a sense of achievement, personal responsibility, and self-confidence. By taking place within a social setting, these activities also promote feelings of inclusion and belonging.

Nestled amongst the trees at the bottom of the Farm, the Log Cabin, our team's base, provides a safe, accessible and well equipped environment in which trainees are supported to a high staff to trainee ratio (3 to 1).

This is a place where people can learn new skills, make new friends, grow in confidence and independence, and above all have fun. We have small groups of no more than 6 and sessions are either for a day or half day.

We're currently piloting an animal assisted therapy scheme so everyone gets a chance to meet the animals too!

What we offer:

We offer a free taster session to try it out and make sure it’s going to be suitable.

  • Small group size to staff ratio. Our groups are no more than 6 and there are always 2 members of staff working with them.
  • Accredited training in gardening and animal care with ASDAN.
  • Taking a person -centred approach, we work with everyone on goals to encourage independence and confidence and check in regularly to make sure all is going well.
  • We assign everyone an individual key worker so they can feel totally supported during their time here.
  • We have access to a large community garden on Mina Road where we grow vegetables to sell to the local cafes and shops.
  • 2 greenhouses and a polytunnel are available for us to work in to propagate vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers.
  • Access to work within our farm with its pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and ducks!
  • Time for opportunities to socialise and make new friends. We have our lunch in the cosy wood cabin, as well as meet with a cup of tea the beginning and end of the day.
  • Nature based Craft activities, and cooking using our harvests, are done in our well-equipped cabin.
  • Time at every session to engage with the farm animals - Animal assisted therapy is helpful to improve mood and general wellbeing, as well as having many other benefits.

During the course of their placement, trainees will learn new skills, gain new interests, grow in confidence, develop support networks and attain greater independence all whilst playing an active role within the community.
