Let the Food be the Medicine...

Supporters of organic, fair-trade and wild food systems, all dietary requirements are catered for at St Werburghs City Farm Cafe.

The hobbit-esque building, home to this Café since 2005, is an organically shaped, gnarled wooden structure with bright inlaid windows.

The Café's decking overlooks the adventure playground, with views across the road to the City Farm's small holding.

When it comes to ingredients, the City Farm Café can almost think entirely in food yards and not miles or kilometers. The Cafe is situated in the centre of the City Farm, who provide meat, vegetables, salad and wild ingredients for the Café's menu.

This closed loop system gives the Supported Farming and Green Care Team a sense of pride by growing vegetables, harvesting them and selling them to the Cafe.

The local allotment holders are also encouraged to trade surplus in return for something to eat or drink.

A Community Gem

Bristolians have been coming to the Cafe for years. Many have made it their go-to spot.

Connecting, slowing down, being made felt at home and looked after, appreciating what's possible and inspiring people to connect with food in more sustainable ways, has always been at the heart of the Cafe.

The City Farm Café was responsible for the creation of a new category in The Observer Food Awards when it won the Best Ethical Contribution, an inspiration for many subsequent Bristol award winners who hold this highly coveted distinction.

More recently the Cafe was chosen as one of the seven Bristol cafés and restaurants amongst the Good Food Award in 2020.

Adventure Playground

We have a great little adventure playground, built by the Green Play Project that incorporates cargo netting, a secret tunnel, climbing frames and hide out shelters. The adventure playground is right next to the City Farm Café.
